Westport commuters are telling the Metro North president they need quicker service and more reliable train times.
"I've been a commuter for fifteen years. My experience, sadly, has gone downhill," said one commuter.
“I’m late everyday. When is that going to stop?" asked another.
Metro North President Joseph Guilietti visited Westport as part of his 100 day action plan. Safety and reliability are the main challenges of the railway today, following two big accidents, maintenance issues and system-wide failures.
"The railway is safe. I would not be standing here if it wasn't," said Guilietti.
And while Guilietti can't pinpoint when the railway consistency will return for Westport commuters, he does say new technology will allow for better maintenance and more accurate train times.
“It gets a lot safer and safer and safer. The other side of it is..in order to get that safety, they’re ensuring that the speeds are dropped well in advance to make sure every speed compliance is there," he said.
On May 11, a more detailed report will be released concerning Metro North.
