"It's a real treat to be with you, all of your and reocgnize community service," said a speaker at the Westport Rotary Club awards breakfast.
Here at The Westport Inn, it was a day of laughter, rememberance and of course - gratitude. The Westport Rotary Club held it's annual Paul Harris Awards Breakfast on Friday, giving out awards to a number of Westporters who have made a big impact on the charty.
"They have taken the initative to make things happen and that's why I say it's above really being volunteers, but really people have initatived social, community programs," said Dennis Wong of the Club.
Some of those standout community members include blogger Dan Woog, getting an award for being Westport's best publicist.
"And, as I look around many of these people are inspirations for what I write about," he said.
Also on the list, Westport's favorite artist: Miggs Burroughs.
"Well, I'm very grateful to be honored for an organization that sets the standard for good citizenship. It doesn't get much better than that," said Burroughs.
Calling him an artist who never says no, the club honored his creativity and contributions to local charities.
Rotary Clubs operate all across the country, each focusing on building peace around the world. Here in Westport the club focuses on helping the youth, as well as other local and international issues. The club's next fundraiser will be on June 21st - The 2014 Great Duck Race.
