Tonight the Sunrise Rotary Club awarded 20 local charities: with checks and ducks.
This marks the organization’s third annual Beneficiary Bash here at Westport’s Christ and Holy Trinity Chruch.
“We look at an organization where we feel we can make a difference," said Nora Jonishian, charitable committee member of the Sunrise Rotary Club.
All together, $75,000 was donated. And, you might recognize some of the charities walking way with a duck in hand. Here, Jeffrey Weiser from Homes with Hope walking up to get his award. And, Robin Hammond also receiving a check for her organization - CLASP Homes.
It’s money that makes a big difference in the long run, especially considering the fact that many of these organizations receive minimal funds from the government.
Dawn Ewing tells me how the money she accepted on behalf of Project Morry, a camp in Elmsford New York, will allow the camp to continue it’s year-round youth development program.
“Our kids don’t have to pay anything to be a part of our program and their parents don’t have to pay anything. So, this is really a great gift that lets our kids be themselves,” she said.
The organization was able to hand out the awards today because of two big fundraisers, and one you can still attend. The "Great Duck Race" will be held on June 21st from 10 a.m - 3 p.m.
