The play has been on stage for less than a week, but the Westport Country Playhouse is already extending the run for its latest production, "Sing for Your Shakespeare", citing strong ticket sales and good reviews. Originally ending on the 22nd of June, the musical will now continue until June 28th, according to a statement released by the theater company.
Featuring a six-member cast of Broadway talents, the play explores how the American Songbook has been inspired by Shakespeare's works for decades. You can expect to hear selections like Cole Porter's "Kiss Me, Kate" based on Shakespeare's "The Taming of the Shrew" and Leonard Bertstein and Stephen Soundheim's "West Side Story" based on "Romeo and Juliet".
Critics have widely praised the musical so far, Broadway World calling it an "irresistable invitation to rediscover Shakespeare", while Westport News says it a "palpable hit".
Single tickets start at $30. Educators and students are eligible for 50% discounts. On the day of a performance, senior rush tickets are available at 50%. “Sing for Your Shakespeare” performance schedule is Tuesday at 8 p.m., Wednesday at 2 and 8 p.m., Thursday and Friday at 8 p.m., Saturday at 3 and 8 p.m. and Sunday at 3 p.m.
