It’s the first day of Summer; and, here in Westport: The heat is on, with thousands of yellow rubber ducks racing down Westport’s Sauguatuck River.
It’s one of the biggest fundraisers of the year for the Westport Sunrise Rotary Club, each duck apart of the race being sold for 20 dollars in a raffle.
"It's a great celebration. It's a win-win for everybody, especially for the local charities we support," said Dennis Wong of the Westport Sunrise Rotary Club.
The ducks took to the waters around noon today, with a huge truck unleashing them into the river. But, immediately, the ducks hit a snag with the wind turning them the opposite direction from the finish line!
"This is one of the things that makes it unpredictable and exciting," said Wong.
This is the fifth year of the event and ,as you can see, it’s grown into more than just a duck race. Face painters, magicians and many others actvities are all taking part in the festitivites. And, it’s all in an effort to raise money for local charities.
What better way to kick of summer?
