Westport residents joined together throughout town to watch the Westport Little League Baseball team take on California in the 2013 Little League World Series Wednesday night.

"What I'm really impressed with is how the town has come together behind the team."

"They're excited, I think the coaches are keeping them calm and I'm expecting a good night tonight, but win or lose, I think the town is embracing them."

Watch parties were held at seven restaurants in town and the Westport Public Library.

Though the league was handed its first loss of the summer last night, losing to California 6-3, fans say in a sports-oriented town like Westport, every game is a good game.

"The athletic programs are much stronger these days and the kids practice more and I think they're better athletes these days.

"You just get very excited," said Director of Westport Public Library Maxine Bleidiweis. "I may know them, I may know their faces but I don't know them personally."

"We wanted to see Drew Rogers and see if he could win Westport Little League's team," said a young fan. "He's my brother's friend but he was a year younger than him, they were in the same grade though."

As the father of a former North Stamford little leaguer, John Green tells us after watching his son play in the Connecticut Championship in 2003, he could relate to the parents of professional young athletes.

"I know what a roller coaster it is," said Green. "It's an unexpected experience. You can never been presumptuous enough to think your kids are going to come this far and when they do, they've given you a gift."
