“U Drive. U Text. U Pay”

That’s the new campaign by the Westport Police Department. And, it could cost you up to 500 dollars if you're caught in the act.

The crackdown is set to being on Wednesday September 3rd and continue through Wednesday September 24th.

The effort is being run in conjunction with the Connecticut Department of Transportation Highway Safety Office.  And, even with a first violation, it could cost you big time.

A first violation starts at 150 dollars. Then, it's 300 dollars for a second violation and 500 dollars for a third.

The town recieved 15 thousand dollars to carry out this initiative and in a statement the Chief of Police Dale Call says he hopes to change an all too common driving behavior.
